INTERVIEW:
How did you get started with Drupal?
I was looking for a better way to build web sites at UNCC after having built static web sites and my own CMS framework. A student at work mentioned Drupal and I became hooked. The Drupal community and quality of code drew me in the most. I think my first install was Drupal 4.5.
Can you tell about your job at UNCC and how Drupal fits into that?
I manage a small IT team which supports some of the student and staff users in the Student Affairs division at UNC Charlotte. Providing web sites and applications for our units is a part of my job. Not only do our web sites run on Drupal, but we build applications on Drupal. We treat Drupal as an applications framework.
Can you tell me about a particular project or website that you're proud of?
http://campusevents.uncc.edu is one of the larger projects I have worked on recently. It is the events calendar for UNCC. Using the services module and RSS tools, we can distribute the calendar to other sites on campus.
Any specific areas of interest within Drupal occupying your time lately?
I am working on a project named Spectacle. This is a project where Drupal is used to drive digital signage like you might see in a school, business, store, etc. Also, I am working on some Drupal 7 theming for UNC Charlotte. We have a Drupal 6 departmental theme and it needs to be moved to Drupal 7. The current version uses the Drupal Blueprint theme (http://drupal.org/project/blueprint). I will probably end up helping that project more as a result.
Do you have any new favorite modules you can tell about?
It isn't new to me or others, but I am always amazed with what can be done with the Rules module. It is very powerful. (http://drupal.org/project/rules)
What's your favorite gadget at the moment?
Just picked up a MacBook Air for work. I really like the size. Makes a good mobile development environment for me.
